Job Description

The City of Stonnington has an exciting opening for a Maternal and Child Health Nurse on a permanent part time basis for 22.8 hours per week.

This is a great opportunity to make a difference in your community, utilising your knowledge of child development and your compassion and interpersonal skills to establish supportive relationships with families in the municipality.

In this position you’ll be responsible for providing a family centred Maternal and Child Health Service that maximises the health potential of children 0-6 years and their families within the municipality.  As a universal MCH Nurse, through centre consultations and home visits, you’ll monitor and promote the health, growth and development of young children, which includes physical, social, emotional/mental and intellectual development of young children by providing support, guidance and information. This will include providing early intervention which is supported by identifying children, parents and families experiencing vulnerability, empowering them to act and facilitating the earliest possible opportunity for engagement with services.

This positon has an annual salary of $108,846 to $111,164 per annum based on full time (38 hours per week) + a qualification allowance + superannuation. This is approximately $55 to $56 per hour as a base rate. 

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this position, you’ll need excellent communications skills for mentoring students and working effectively with a diverse range of families, groups and service providers. Additionally you’ll need strong time management skills, highly developed assessment and referral skills and an understanding of legislation relating to Mandatory Reporting of child abuse.

A current drivers licence, WWCC and current registration with the AHPRA as a registered nurse and registered midwife, with a recognised qualification in Child, Family and Community Nursing are essential to be considered. You will have highly developed assessment and referral skills and an understanding of families’ support needs, child protection issues and knowledge of child development and family dynamics. Well-developed communication skills in correspondence, report writing and client documentation using Microsoft office and DHHS Information Systems is also required.
