Media and Communications Officer

The Longreach Regional Council is situated 700 kilometres from the coast and covers an area of 40,638 square kilometres, roughly the size of Denmark. The Region encompasses the outback townships of Longreach, Ilfracombe, Isisford and Yaraka and the entire population is approximately 4,300 people. Councils vision is to enhance status as a major regional centre through cohesive and inclusive communities.

An excellent career opportunity exists for an enthusiastic, capable, and suitably experienced person to join the dynamic Longreach Regional Council team as Media and Communications Officer.

This position is responsible for the efficient delivery of a media and communications strategy and will be tasked with implementing communications, marketing, advertising and publishing strategies, which promote and enhance the profile of Longreach Regional Council. This role will be required to plan and undertake communications duties and assume project responsibility for public relations tasks. The incumbent is also responsible to act as a consultant to internal clients to analyse specific public communication needs, and plan and implement creative strategies as required.

To be successful within this role you will require:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with experience in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities and deadlines
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge in communications, public relations and managing corporate websites;
• Demonstrated experience in dealing with media, including but not limited to radio, print, digital media platforms, media releases, interviews, events and newsletters;
• Appropriate qualifications or relevant experience in the areas of Business/Marketing/Media/Communications
