CSL Florey Next Generation Award

 


The 2018 CSL Florey Next Generation Award will be conferred to a current PhD candidate who has demonstrated outstanding capability, creativity and potential in the biomedical sciences and/or health and medical research.

As well as the award trophy, the award currently carries a prize of $20,000 thanks to the generous support of CSL Limited.

Two runner-up prizes of $2,500 will also be awarded.

Nominations will open on the 16th of July 2018 and close at 11.59pm (AEST) on 14 September 2018.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Nominations will only be accepted via the online form below.
  • Nominations are to be completed by the nominating institution, not the nominee
  • Nominations should be made in the name of the Institute Director or Dean of Medicine (or equivalent)

Selection Criteria

1. Excellence in research achievement in the biomedical science and/or human health advancement, shown by clearly demonstrated potential. This could include:

  • Potential research impact/application of your project
  • Research engagement and communication skills (as demonstrated through the 90 second video)
  • Publication record
  • Awards or prizes

2. A creative component – articulated in a 90 second video that answers the question: “What research challenge do I intend to solve during the course of my career?”.

Eligibility

  • Nominees must be a PhD candidate who has not had their PhD conferred as of 21 August 2018.
  • Nominees must have completed a majority of their PhD research in Australia.
  • Nominations will be accepted for individuals only, and not teams of researchers.
  • Institutions may nominate a maximum of two nominees. At least one of the nominees must be female.
  • Self-nominations are not eligible.
  • Nominees may be any nationality but must currently reside in Australia – this includes both domestic and international students.

Conditions of Award

  • The award comes with the following prizes:
    • 1 X winner – $20,000 and award trophy
    • 2 X runner up – $2,500
  • There are no restrictions on expenditure of the prize money although winners are encouraged to use it to support the advancement of their research career
  • The awardee must be available to:
    • Attend the presentation ceremony on Monday 26 November at Parliament House, Canberra. The award will be presented during the Annual Dinner of the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes.
    • Participate in associated media activities in the week prior to, and the week after, the award is made.

 

Submission of Nominations

Nominations should be completed online by 11.59pm (AEST) on 14th September 2018.
