The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) has urged the State Government to continue to support strong social policy initiatives.

 

The calls come after the LGAQ kicked off its inaugural Community Wellbeing Symposium earlier this week, an event the Association says is designed to “drill down to  economic, political and community value” of good social policy.

 

LGAQ’s executive officer, Greg Hallam, says that the development of sound policy not only has solid social benefits, but also is critical to local economies.

 

“A growing body of evidence demonstrates that happy, healthy and active communities are also prosperous communities,“ Mr Hallam said.

 

“Strong social policy is important in the context of the Government’s commitment to grow the four pillars of the economy.
