The Wellington Shire Council in south-east Victoria has laid out plans for its Port of Sale redevelopment.

Blueprints for the $13 million facility include an art gallery, library, cafe, information centre and council chambers.

Wellington Mayor Darren McCubbin said the new building would be a vast improvement.

“The new library is a fabulous community space,” he said.

“Not only does it contain plenty of space for new books and so on and so forth with an internet area but there's also community meeting rooms, research areas, connections to new technology and also a cafe there so you can borrow a book and enjoy the views across the lake.

“In a few years' time you'll be able to wander down to our wonderful art gallery/library, sit on the steps and just be part of a buzz that's going to be huge.

“It's a really vibrant open space, really clear lines to the port so you can see out over there.”
