About the Opportunity

Burke Shire Council now has an exciting opportunity for a Workplace Health and Safety Coordinator to join their team. This is a full-time position, based in Burketown, QLD.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, this pivotal role will see you primarily responsible for overseeing Council’s Workplace Health and Safety management system and acting as Council’s airport reporting officer.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Implementing, overseeing and maintaining Council’s WHS management system, and recommending improvements;
  • Ensuring all WHS systems, procedures and processes, including its risk management strategies, are compliant with legislative requirements;
  • Coordinating and participating in WHS consultations between staff, supervisors, management and Councillors;
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of organisational and employee training and development;
  • Assessing and interpreting documentation to identify Traffic Management Plan needs, and drafting compliant plans in line with needs; and
  • Conducting inspections of airside hazards and implementing preventative maintenance to airport facilities.
