Snowy River Shire Council is situated in the South East corner of New South Wales in the heart of the Snowy Mountains. 150 km south of Canberra, close to the Ski Fields and the South Coast, the area boasts fantastic year-round outdoor recreation with a rural lifestyle.

The Position

The role of the Respite Coordinator is to ensure effective respite options are provided to carers of elderly Australians and people living with a disability within a social model framework to eligible people in the community.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • TAFE Certificate IV or above and a minimum two years’ experience in a relevant field and one year supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Commonwealth Home Support Program – Carers Relationship Services
  • Experience in staff mentoring and supervision
  • High level written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people and groups in formal and informal settings
  • Proven administrative skills including documentation, budget monitoring, report writing and accurate data entry
  • Sound computing skills with a good working knowledge of windows programs
  • Knowledge of Government initiatives in respect of providing services to marginalized community members
  • Ability and ongoing commitment to work independently and as part of a team as directed by Supervisor, according to Councils prescribed practices and Code of Conduct, with or without supervision
  • Knowledge of and commitment to best practice WHS principles
  • Current valid NSW C Class Drivers Licence - ongoing employment is conditional on maintaining this Licence

Desirable:

  • Experience working with people from the services target group
  • Experience working in a community-based, government-funded organisation
  • Experience in case conferencing and/or advocacy
  • Knowledge of services within the local service system
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Salary Details

Council’s Grade 8 $32.66 per hours – 70 hours per fortnight.
