About the role

South West Healthcare (SWH) is seeking a Research Governance Officer who is responsible for managing ethics and governance of research and clinical trials. The purpose of this role is to provide coordination, and research advice for ethics and governance policy, procedure and operational processes. This is to enable safe, high quality research and clinical trials aligned with the strategic plan and in accordance with the National Statement, National regulation and legislation and jurisdictional policies.

The Research Governance Officer provides support for the implementation of the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework and provides administrative support services to review, monitor and evaluate research. In addition, the role is responsible for monitoring, ensuring all research meets relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, policy development, and the provision of support and advice to the CEO, Executive Director of Medical Services, Director of Research, Human Research Ethics Committee, researchers, clinical trial teams and sponsors.

You will provide administration support of the review and approval processes for researchers and clinical trials teams wishing to conduct human studies by providing advice and guidance on submitted documentation, data entry, and liaising with researchers, ethics reviewers and committee members. The position coordinates the SWH Human Research Ethics Committee/Research Committees.

What you bring

The successful applicant will have a broad understanding of the health and medical research environment including a sound understanding of legislation and codes of practice and guidelines in Victoria and Australia specifically university and hospital research environments and processes. Excellent organisational skills with a high level of verbal and written communication skills are essential. Tertiary qualifications or experience in biomedical research or ethics in research project management is desirable.
