Aboriginal Contact Officer (Identified Position)

Our Community and Social Planning Unit are seeking a motivated and creative Aboriginal Contact Officer to support Council deliver culturally appropriate and relevant services for, and with, Banyule’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

The Role

You will be working in a small passionate team and closely with our Barrbunin Beek Cultural Project officer to support and strengthen Council's services with and for Banyule's Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities.

  • Temporary position with an end date of August 2019.
  • A flexible 15 hour week.
  • $33.16 - $38.42 an hour, plus super

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Banyule Council  provision of culturally appropriate services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities 
  • Support the development & implementation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander plan
  • Support the activation of the Barrbunin Beek gathering place 

Key skills required for this role:

  • A degree or diploma in a related field, (health promotion, social sciences, Community Cultural Development) or experience in community development, arts, and culture project delivery
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Experience in effectively delivering cultural education to a diverse range of people
  • Demonstrated ability to gain co-operation of staff, relevant agencies and members of the community and to manage diverse agendas
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and autonomously
  • Well-developed computer skills
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to collaborate and liaise with stakeholders.
