Development Planning Coordinator

Banyule City Council has an exciting position ready for you to make your mark!

We are seeking a skilled and proactive leader to effectively manage and guide our team of development planning professionals in the delivery of urban planning strategy and program delivery, including subdivision and planning enforcement, which meets Council and community objectives.

This position is part of the Urban Planning and Building portfolio which aligns urban planning policy with urban planning delivery and incorporates Banyule’s Statutory and Strategic Planning Teams including subdivision and planning enforcement. The portfolio also includes Building Services which includes Council’s Municipal Building Surveyor and enforcement functions as well a commercial Building Permit Service (Banyule BPi).

As a development planning coordinator you will:

  • Manage the unit in an efficient and professional manner and within Council’s established parameters of legal obligation, budgetary requirement, policy and practice.
  • Lead the team and investigation and enforcement functions in establishing business objectives and service level commitments.
  • Identify and develop strategies and initiatives to be implemented through creative integrated practices.
  • Develop team member skills including technical, professional and interpersonal and encourage contemporary and relevant subject matter expertise in team. 
  • Be aware of legislative changes and industry developments relevant to Planning and communicate changes effectively to stakeholders.
  • Lead, guide and provide input into strategic planning projects.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or Diploma in Planning, Urban Planning and/or similar.
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of qualified professionals and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to manage operations of a development planning business unit.
  • Highly developed technical skills and knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Strong communication, presentation and problem solving skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of financial, people management and governance principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of an effective leadership team
