Senior Urban Designer

This recently created role will build the urban design capability within the City of Greater Geelong and deliver improved urban outcomes for our community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a range of projects ranging from strategic 'visioning' to detailed urban design concepts.
  • Provide high quality design, project management, policy development and professional/technical services and advice.
  • Grow the urban design capacity and capability of the organisation.
  • Provide design solutions and strategies for a range of place based projects encompassing residential, mixed use, commercial and industrial masterplanning commissions.
  • Work with contractors and Council project delivery units in the design and implementation phases of key urban design projects.

For the first two years, this position will support the implementation of the Central Geelong Revitalisation plan, a partnership between Council and the Victorian Government to revitalise the key area of Central Geelong. 

Key attributes:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate design discipline.
  • Several years' experience as an Urban Designer, Architect or Landscape Architect, designing and delivering public realm projects within or in partnership with Local Government.  
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in team development, management and leadership.
  • Experience in developing guidance and policies relating to the built environment.
  • High level interpersonal, communication, and consultation skills, with the ability to articulate issues and influence outcomes at a senior level.
  • Excellent IT proficiency in a range of technical software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp and ArcGIS, and advanced knowledge of relevant standards, codes and practices.
