Environmental Projects Implementation Officer

 

About the Environment & Waste Department

This department is part of our City Services Division, and is responsible for building a sustainable City through the facilitation, promotion and adoption of a proactive approach in the use of our natural resources.  The department also looks after the City's waste management program including the operation of our landfills, transfer stations and resource recovery centres.

About the role

The Environmental Projects Implementation Officer will work with the Environment and Biodiversity Team to ensure that biodiversity and natural landscapes are retained, protected and enhanced.

Key responsibilities

  • Role model and promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
  • Review and improve the systems and day to day operations of the team including the incorporation and use of technology in field operations.
  • Review and coordinate the update of communication material including the website, training programs and associated engagement and education material.
  • Manage strategic planning processes including the development of reserve master plans, and environmental policies.
  • In conjunction with stakeholders, develop and coordinate monitoring and reporting systems including expanding the use of geospatial systems.
  • Review and manage improvements to customer service including the Request for Service process.
  • Develop and enhance business opportunities including seeking grant funding.
  • Assist in the implementation of relevant strategies, including the Environment Management Strategy, Biodiversity Strategy and the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.

Key selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing process improvements within an organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects including budget management and implementation.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, both verbally and in writing.
  • Broad strategic thinker with good understanding about best management practice.
  • Demonstrated project management skills including familiarity with budgeting and financial procedures.
