About the Connected Communities Department

This department is part of our Community Life Division, and works in partnership with individuals, groups and organisations to help build a well-informed, inclusive and skilled community and improve service and facility outcomes for residents.

About the role
This position will have a specific focus on volunteer support and management, creative programming, marketing and community engagement and development within the Grovedale community.  The position with be set within the Grovedale Neighbourhood House.

The Community Development Officer is responsible for facilitating community development projects to enhance community social, health and wellbeing, inclusiveness and economic prosperity.

This is a temporary part-time 12 month position working 2-3 days per week.

Key responsibilities

  1. Role model and promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
  2. Coordinate the volunteer program for the Grovedale Neighbourhood House.
  3. Build partnerships with organisations that strengthen the delivery and sustainability of Grovedale Neighbourhood House Plan 2016-19, including the development of partnerships with alternative funding/philanthropic bodies.
  4. Develop community engagement strategies and community involvement in the planning of activities, programs and community development projects.
  5. Respond to emerging issues and opportunities identified during the day to day work at the Grovedale Neighbourhood House.
  6. Liaise with various community based organisations in the implementation of Grovedale Neighbourhood House community development projects, programs and activities.
  7. Consult with the community to ensure that the Grovedale Neighbourhood H programs/activities are reflective of the Grovedale community needs.
  8. Support local community networks which support sharing of information, skills and community knowledge.

Key selection criteria

  1. Experience in the development and implementation of community development initiatives, particularly in volunteer support and management and creative programming.
  2. Ability to plan, implement, promote and market programs and activities that engage the community, are relevant and meet the broader social, economic or other objectives of the community.
  3. Capacity to understand, support, plan and deliver adult, community and further lifelong learning programs and needs.
  4. Knowledge of facilitation processes and advocacy skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes in partnership with the community.
  6. Working with Children check.
