About the Tourism Department

This department is part of our Investment & Attraction Division, and is responsible for growing and supporting the visitor economy through partnership, industry leadership, promotion and development.  We seek to have Greater Geelong and The Bellarine recognised as a global destination that delivers world standard visitor experiences.

Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine (TGGB) is the Regional Tourism Organisation spanning from Werribee to Barwon Heads, incorporating Bannockburn, Geelong, Portarlington and all the areas in between.

A core objective of TGGB is to lead and manage Visitor Servicing throughout the region. This includes management of the team of 100+ volunteers, Accredited Visitor Information Centres (VICs) and four VIC booths (VIBs), pop-up visitor servicing outlets and other visitor servicing functions.

About the role
This position coordinates the visitor services delivered across the region to provide excellence in customer service and promote the benefits of tourism products and opportunities within the region by issuing appropriate visitor information in a professional, accurate and friendly manner. In addition, the position coordinates the development of additional visitor services to capitalise on events and increases to visitation throughout the region to takes services ‘to the visitors’ in non-traditional locations.

Key responsibilities

  1. Role model and promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
  2. Coordinate Visitor Information Centres and Booths located throughout the City of Greater Geelong.
  3. Coordinate all administration related to the Visitor Information Centres and Booths.
  4. Coordinate the resourcing requirements of staff and volunteers relating to the Visitor Services network including on call assistance when required due to the 7 day a week nature of the Service across multiple locations.
  5. Identify training and ongoing development performance needs for all staff and volunteers.
  6. Implement and review the Accreditation needs of the Visitor Information Centres relevant to Australian Tourism Accreditation Program (ATAP).
  7. Represent the Region through the Victorian Visitor Information Centre Reference Group facilitated by Victoria Tourism Industry Council providing advice and foresight to the future of Visitor Servicing in Victoria.
  8. Develop, implement and evaluate the Visitor Servicing Strategy for the region as well as Operations Manuals for the various services including regular reporting on visitor trends and projects through statistical analysis and innovation

Key selection criteria

  1. Degree in Tourism Management or related field.
  2. Several years’ experience in visitor servicing or a related service industry role.
  3. Experience in working with volunteers and tourism or community programs.
  4. Ability to identify and report information gaps, visitor trends and movements relevant to Visitor Servicing.
  5. Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions.
  6. Ability to relate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
