Moreland City Council is located in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the most populous and culturally diverse municipalities. Located in Coburg, Moreland City Council is just 8km from the CBD and offers excellent public transport and cycling access for employees.

Reporting to the Manager Property and Governance, you will have responsibility for the Governance and Civic Protocols unit comprising: Governance; Legal Services; Mayor and Councillor Support and Civic Events functions.  This position is a key leadership role in the organisation and this is a temporary full-time opportunity for approximately 7 months to backfill extended leave. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen Council's governance practice and to enhance a team of effective, innovative and driven individuals.

As the Unit Manager you will take a lead in developing and implementing the Unit’s processes and systems to establish a proactive development facilitation approach to the governance functions. This role requires the capacity to oversee the financial and legislative elements of governance, build and maintain strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, and facilitate excellent customer service standards to staff and Councillors.  You will own critical service delivery across governance, setting the vision while delivering process improvements and enhanced efficiencies.

Candidates will have a proven track record in working in senior governance roles, political acumen, managing high performing teams and managing performance (operational, financial and personal) as well as the ability to communicate and influence at executive levels.
