Visual Communications & Design Officer 


  • Full time permanent role with monthly RDO
  • $86,112K  + Super (Band 6)

Moreland City Council is located in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne and is one of the most populous and culturally diverse municipalities. Located in Coburg, Moreland City Council is just 8km from the CBD and offers excellent public transport and cycling access for employees.

The newly structured communications unit is responsible for effectively communicating and engaging with the diverse community and stakeholders of Moreland in relation to Council services, projects, activities, achievements and values, through various channels. A key part of this is managing Council’s reputation through strategic communications, issues management, and maintaining and enhancing Council’s identity. 

Working as part of a team, you will create high quality and engaging creative content, including videography and photography for online and print communications.

Some of your key responsibilities will be:

  • Provide branding and design advice to Councillors, staff and community groups.
  • Review and approve the branding and design of communications and publications.
  • Work with other Communications team members to generate ideas for projects and campaigns.
  • Compile and provide design project files to staff and agencies.
  • Provide specialist photography, videography and editing services.
  • Produce video and photo content suitable for use across Council’s digital channels.
  • Manage and enhance Council’s digital library ensuring appropriate permissions are held for image use in design projects.
  • Assist staff throughout Council with the generation of digital platform content.
  • Manage the use and maintenance of digital, audio-visual, photographic and video equipment.
  • As part of the business partner model, provide support to a Council branch or department by providing communications advice, coordinating communications and pro-actively managing the business partner relationship.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in visual communications, multi-media, design or a related discipline; or a lesser qualification with substantial relevant experience in the field of visual communications and design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of people from different backgrounds and with different life experiences to draw out content for video and other visual mediums.
  • Experience leading communications and publications design projects.
  • Experience producing and managing digital content for online campaigns.
  • Ability to use a range of digital media capture technologies and post-production tools and keep up to date with current technical trends and applications.
  • Experience transforming good ideas into engaging and original content.
  • Demonstrated high quality creative skills in videography and photography.
