We are seeking a suitably experienced, motivated team player with strong customer focus to join Council’s Statutory Planning Team, in this challenging but rewarding role.

You will be responsible for:

  • Effectively and efficiently managing a caseload of reactive and proactive planning investigations resulting from both resident and community complaints and as identified by our proactive investigations register.
  • Communicating effectively on a range of matters, including explanation of planning controls and systems to customers, including builders, developers, landowners and members of the community.
  • Negotiating positive outcomes with a range of people in respect of matters relating to planning controls and effecting adherence to the requirements of planning permits and the Nillumbik Planning Scheme.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in the administration of planning schemes.  Experience in the enforcement of planning controls is also desirable.
  • Proven commitment to customer service principles and a demonstrated ability to provide a professional service to a diverse range of clients.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, the provisions of development control to all customers, including members of the community, Council officers, Government departments and Councillors.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify potentially complex problems and circumstances, identify key issues, and initiate workable solutions based on effective communication, negotiation and education.

This is a permanent full-time position offered at either a Band 5 or 6 level + super.  Employment benefits provided for this position include commuter use of a utility vehicle and a 19-day fortnight.

This position requires a pre-employment police check. This check will be organised by Nillumbik Shire Council as part of the recruitment process. Permission will be sought prior to this check being undertaken.
