Job Description

As School Focused Youth Services Coordinator you are responsible for developing and facilitating the delivery of interventions with primary and secondary schools across the local government areas that respond to identified needs of young people identified as at risk of disengaging. You will promote proactive relationships and participation by schools, community agencies and government sectors in the provision of an integrated School Focused Youth Service and implement strategies that will promote information and resource sharing and collaboration. You will also implement the Department of Education and Training’s (DET) authorised SFYS Work Plan and protocols and policies to support co-ordination and referral processes between schools and agencies and enhance service provision to young people “at risk”.

You are also required to:

  • Analyse and collate data; and develop impact and Mid/Annual Reports to DET as per the contract.
  • Coordinate and deliver school-based activities and events such as annual School Leadership Forum, School Network Meetings and other school engagement
  • Attend and facilitate various network meetings and take part in Critical Friend Network

School Focused Youth Services is a Department of Education and Training (DET) funded program. More information available at their site: School Focused Youth Service (education.vic.gov.au). City of Stonnington is funded by DET to deliver the program across Stonnington, Glen Eira and Port Phillip. This is a temporary part time position with an annual salary range of $88,661 - $96,020 (pro rata) per annum + 10.5% superannuation.

The job is 3 days a week until December 31st 2023 and may be extended depending on funding. It is a job share role with another Coordinator and offers some flexible working arrangements such as some work on site and some work from home and some observations at schools. There is flexibility in the days, but preferably Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This is negotiable.

Desired Skills and Experience

The position is job shared, but the role will be quite autonomous. You would need to be confident in working independently and collaboratively. The position requires lateral thinking and data analysis. You will need to be able to analyse raw data and present it in reports to demonstrate the impact of the programs.

You are also someone who is confident with managing relationships with school partners, program partners and department partners. They will also collaborate and connect with state-wide SFYS coordinators, council partners and community organisations.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (i.e. Social Work, Social Science, Education, Community Development, Youth Work, Psychology).
  • Knowledge of the contemporary issues impacting young people “at risk” and understanding of DHHS and DET policies in relation to young people, education and service systems, legislation and procedures.”
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with schools and service providers to develop and deliver interventions that achieve enhanced outcomes for young people.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying service gaps and using evidence to develop and/or coordinate responses to identified needs.
  • Experience in project, budget and stakeholder management.
  • Well-developed strategies for building relationships internally and externally
  •  A valid Working with Children’s Check
