We are now seeking an exceptionally talented, suitably qualified and highly experienced professional to join our Cultural Services team in this key strategic position.

The Senior Cultural Planner plays a critical role in the design, development and implementation of strategies, initiatives and plans to enhance the City’s national creative, cultural and artistic competitiveness. The ideal candidate will be an amazing strategic thinker who has a highly developed and demonstrated experience in Arts & Cultural Management. You must also have the ability to balance exceptional analytical skills with effective leadership competencies with a key focus on continuous improvement.

The key objectives of the role are to: 

  • Manage, direct and monitor the activities of key Cultural Service’s cultural planning and project personnel, including: Arts and Cultural Grants Coordinator; and special Project Officers.
  • Manage diverse and complex projects that achieve the objectives of Council’s Corporate Plan, including the supervision of multi-disciplinary external contractors and consultant teams.
  • Design, coordinate and implement complex structural frameworks to ensure an integrated, aligned and cohesive cultural planning system that responds to Council’s corporate values and State Government priorities.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement high-level research and evaluative procedures aligned to Council’s priorities for Culture and the Arts.
  • Oversee the management of Cultural Services Internal Grants Program: Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF); Arts and Cultural Infrastructure Grant; and Arts and Culture In-kind Grant Program.
  • Manage and oversee the delivery of Council’s Public Art Program, including the development of a five-year strategy for placemaking and public art and implementation of the strategy’s key priorities and actions.

 The candidate we are seeking must have: 

  • A Masters or University Degree in cultural planning or related field.
  • Extensive related experience in local government planning.
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic, strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and strong research, writing and communication skills, including ability to interpret and synthesize data and discern trends in data pertaining to cultural planning discipline; and knowledge of and/experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Highly developed and demonstrated experience in Arts & Cultural Management and Strategic Planning
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and engage a multi-function team, manage change and operate in an environment that promotes excellence.
