Remuneration: Salary range between $87,390 and $92,774 plus 13% sueprannuation and commuter use of a Council vehicle.

Background

Parks Operations is a newly formed unit within Gympie Regional Council's Infrastructure Services directorate.  Council is looking to recruit this unit's leadership team with the intent on making material and lasting change in the way Parks Operations are programmed and delivered.  This is an exciting opportunity and applicants must be willing to make their mark on the way we deliver for the community and be committed to seeing these changes through to fruition." 

Role Overview

The purpose of this key role in Council's Parks structure will be to manage the operational activities of the parks function to ensure the efficient and effective coordination and delivery of services including high presentation parks and gardens, CBD areas and sports fields in accordance with business plans, operational plans and strategies.  This position will also provide specialist advice and support to a range of Council programs, events and activities.

In this exciting role, we are counting on the right person to lead and manage the operational activities of Council's parks branch through a period of change and rejuvenation in our parks service delivery. This is the opportunity to develop and implement new initiatives through a change management approach.  This position calls for someone with an open, inclusive, empathetic and democratic management style, whose logical and lateral thinking, practical expertise and technical knowledge will drive others to achieve outcomes.

As Manager - Parks Operations, you will be responsible for deliverables such as:

  • managing the maintenance and improvement programs of Council's high presentation parks and gardens, sports fields and streetscapes through the coordination of physical, financial and human resources.
  • developing, implementing and maintaining the unit's business plan.
  • providing specialist advice for various Council projects and initiatives.
  • lead, manage, develop and motivate staff through inclusive management styles.
  • deliver programmed parks capital projects.
  • develop and implement new initiatives
  • lead a customer focused culture.

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • demonstrated high level knowledge and experience in programming and scheduling.
  • a diploma level or higher in amenity horticulture along with proven management experience in this field.
  • demonstrated experience in project management.
  • demonstrated experience in contract management and procurement processes.
  • high level experience with budget management to ensure operational programs meet targets.
  • high level interpersonal and communication skills.
  • leadership, management and mentoring skills.
  • QLD 'C' Class driver's licence.
  • Construction industry white/blue card.

Desirable for this role will be:

  • formal qualification or higher in project management.
  • formal qualification or higher in contract management and procurement.
  • experience in irrigation automation and maintenance.
