Remuneration: Annual salary commencing at $107,656.12 plus up to 13% superannuation

Role Overview

The position will play a key role in overseeing Council's compliance functions and coordinating compliance operational delivery for Council, championing effective compliance management across the organisation and the community.

What we are looking for

We are seeking a qualified and experienced candidate, who has the skill and communication style to lead a team of compliance professionals across the areas of building and plumbing, planning and illegal dumping.  Success in this role will mean that you will have the ability to guide, educate and influence stakeholders, and work collaboratively to achieve sustainable compliance outcomes for both Council and its customers. 

Critical to success will be experience and expertise in coordinating, mentoring and reviewing the progress of investigations into non-compliance matters, especially in terms of protracted, complex, and/or sensitive matters.  You will also be responsible for providing advice on policy, procedures and business improvement strategies and their effectiveness, along with providing quality and timely reports and briefing notes as required.  You will also be responsible for managing the budget for the compliance team and contributing to budget processes for the Compliance branch.

To be considered, you must have:

  • Diploma level or higher in Investigations or a relevant field, along with previous experience working in a regulatory capacity with a high-level discipline knowledge at supervisory or management level.
  • Highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated capability to effectively and efficiently lead a team.
  • Proven organisational skills with an ability to meet deadlines and achieve results autonomously.
  • The ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, or the proven ability to interpret statutes, policies, regulations and guidelines relating to local government licensing and regulatory compliance in Queensland.
  • An excellent understanding of obtaining evidence, interviewing suspects/witnesses and preparing briefs of evidence for court and the ability to provide timely and accurate advice to Legal Practitioners.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, operating as a specialist leading investigations into breaches of legislation, with ability to analyse relevant legislation and legal arguments.
  • Demonstrated well developed analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills with the proven ability to solve complex problems, negotiate and mediate outcomes.

Highly regarded will be:

  • Formal qualification in Government Investigations.
  • Formal qualification in Management or Business Administration.
  • Formal qualification in Town Planning.
  • Formal qualification in Law
  • Formal qualification in ICAM / Taproot or similar incident investigation process.
