Currently the busiest Tribunal in Australia, VCAT serves the community by resolving civil and administrative disputes and making decisions in human rights and guardianship cases. VCAT services a diverse range of Victorian disputes, from residential tenancy matters to complex building and property and human rights matters, which have a deep reach into the Victorian community and a direct impact on the economy, in particular, in planning, property, health and small business.

The Specialist Registry Officer (Planning and Environment) will work in a small team of planners and lawyers in the Specialist Case Management Team (SCMT) in the Planning and Environment Division (PED) of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The SCMT is a new team tasked with establishing active case management in PEL and aims to embed practices that support the efficient flow of cases to hearing and resolution. This new role will work with the SCMT to support the active case management of cases in PED and, under limited direction from the Specialist Registrars, perform appropriate administrative and quasi-judicial functions relating to both the day-to-day and ongoing operations of the PED.

Do you have:

  • Knowledge of the Victorian statutory planning system, the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Environment Protection Act 2017 and associated regulations
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with the processes and procedures of the Planning and Environment Division at the VCAT, including Felix

Qualifications in (or an intention to obtain qualifications in) planning or law would be highly desirable. This role will be available as fixed term or as a secondment from within the VPS or local government.
