The City of Bunbury's Development Assessment and Compliance (DAC) Team is seeking a Senior Planning Officer. This position will provide senior professional urban and regional planning advice and services to our customers. With Bunbury being the second city of Western Australian, the key role of the position is to take the lead on the assessment of large scale and complex development proposals and in the handling of planning appeals and enforcements.

The successful candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or have demonstrated experience that is comparable to a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent. Demonstrated expertise in statutory planning, planning law and leadership experience in the managing of multidisciplinary teams will also be highly regarded.

The responsibilities for this role include:

  • Undertake the monitoring, preparation and/or review of strategic, corporate, organisational, technical and statutory planning documents of the Local Planning Policy Framework as directed.

  • Provide professional planning advice.

  • Undertake and/or support the enforcement of development compliance matters.

  • Prepare and submit council reports including council briefing and meeting attendance when required.

  • South West Development Assessment Panel (SWJDAP) reporting and meeting attendance.

  • Witness statement preparation for the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) or a court of law as directed.

  • Undertake site inspections to gather information to provide advice on scheme amendment submissions, structure plan proposals, Local Planning Policies, subdivision referrals and applications.

  • Customer service delivery.

  • Undertake research and investigations as directed.

  • Maintain complete and accurate records.

  • Staff supervision and team work.

The key skills required for this role include:

  • Extensive experience in the technical application of both urban and regional planning and urban design principles, practices and procedures.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of relevant local, state and federal legislation and policy.

  • Project management.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) or design software programmes experience.

  • Team work.

What we offer

Conditions of employment are in accordance with the City of Bunbury Employee's 2015 Enterprise Agreement with a level 6 to level 7 salary range of $72,755 to $83,767 gross depending on experience and qualifications.

Permanent position.

76 hour per fortnight.
