The Opportunity

Our Youth Services Department have an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced and appropriately qualified Youth Participation and Advocacy Officer to join the team. Reporting to the Advocacy and Planning Stream Leader, you will work alongside young people in the City of Maribyrnong to raise voices, expand choices and create change in the municipality and beyond.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing links within the relevant systems across Government and the Youth Sector to build capacity for young people to participate in, connect with and contribute meaningfully to their community.

Key Responsibilities

As the Youth Participation and Advocacy Officer, you will work towards enabling and ensuring:

  • The engagement and inclusion of all young people;
  • The voice of young people to be heard;
  • The safety of young people;
  • Respect for young people's human dignity and worth;
  • Young people's connectedness to important people in their lives, such as family and community;
  • Positive health and wellbeing outcomes for young people, and;
  • Social justice for young people.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification relevant to Youth Services;
  • Practical working knowledge and understanding of Youth Work informed by ethical, developmental, community and strength-based principles and practices;
  • Demonstrable experience working with a diverse range of young people, their families and communities, in a variety of roles and program settings;
  • Experience working with Services, Agencies, and community-based groups.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate team player, familiar with the principles of co-design and who is able to demonstrate initiative and leadership when working with young people. Your experience working with young people in the context of Youth Participation coupled with your consultative and engaging approach will be key to your success in this role.
