The Opportunity

The City Futures Department has an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced and appropriately qualified Senior Strategic Planner to join the team. Reporting to the Coordinator Strategic Planning, you will project manage the Planning Scheme Amendments, prepare land use policy and framework plans, as well as assist with the preparation of annual work programs, budgets, implementing planning policies and strategic projects as required.

This is a temporary full-time position until 30 June 2021.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior advice and project direction to team members and clients
  • Prepare policies and strategies that support Council's planning directions in accordance with Council and statutory requirements, such as Development Contributions Plan
  • Prepare and project manage planning scheme amendments in accordance with Council and statutory requirements
  • Prepare and implement key Council planning policies, studies and plans under the guidance of the Coordinator Strategic Planning
  • Identify strategic land use planning directions, issues and priorities within the municipality

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in urban planning, land use economics or a related discipline
  • Several years' experience as a strategic or statutory planner within local government or private industry, with a sound understanding of the statutory and operational requirements of local government
  • Demonstrable understanding of strategies to enable and manage future growth and urban renewal including the relationship between strategic urban planning, economic development and land use economics
  • A thorough understanding of the Victorian planning legislation framework - the Victorian Planning Provisions, planning schemes and the Planning and Environment Act 1987
  • A thorough understanding of State Planning policy and its implications for the City of Maribyrnong
