The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Environmental Science Communication and Reporting Officer to provide effective dissemination and communication of multidisciplinary scientific and technical information to council and its stakeholders.

In this newly created position, you will be responsible for providing leadership in environmental science communication and the production of material including reports, publications, presentations, websites and other content for State of the Environment reporting purposes. You will perform analysis of environmental data as well as communicating and reporting on accurate environmental scientific and technical information to council’s internal and external customers.

What you will bring

You will ideally have a post graduate qualification in Environmental Science specialising in Communication and have at least five years’ experience in a similar role and an in-depth understanding of council’s State of the Environment reporting programmes, National Environmental Monitoring Standards and the Resource Management Act.

Skills and experience in project management, data analysis and reporting are essential, as is an ability to communicate scientific information in an engaging, persuading, innovative, informative and influencing way.

The role requires excellent computer skills using MS Office, GIS, databases, statistical analysis, and data visualisation software such as Tableau or MS Power BI.

A high level of initiative and enthusiasm, and the ability to relate to a diverse workforce using effective communication and interpersonal skills, will ensure your success. Your work will be highly valued and directly contribute to the effective management of natural resources within the Northland region.
