Applications are invited for the fixed term position of Intermediate or Senior Policy Planner with the Wairoa District Council, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

Wairoa district (Space Coast New Zealand), is now home to the world's only privately-operated space launch site, based on the magnificent Mahia Peninsula - also famed for its beaches and surfing. With a benign climate, the district is also renowned for Te Urewera and the legendary Lake Waikaremoana (one of NZ's 9 Great Walks). It is known as ‘the outdoors capital of NZ'.

Applicants should be experienced, capable, self-motivated individuals who enjoy responsibility and working as part of a small agile and energetic team.

The appointee is likely to have a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience and an appropriate tertiary qualification with a good working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and related legislation, and (preferably) relevant experience in District Plan formation.

The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and offers both a tremendous variety and depth of work experience in a small but progressive authority and also the opportunity to be part of a warmly-welcoming, re-energising rural community. Where else in NZ would you need to include frequent rocket launch activity along with rural development amongst your planning considerations?

A suitable employment contract and remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
