This is a permanent part time position of 17.5 hours per week within Council’s Community Services Team. The salary range for the position is $31.19 - $37.20 per hour, plus superannuation.

The position is located in Maclean.

Purpose of the Position:

  • To assist with implementation of effective community development programs that engage with the Aboriginal community
  • To coordinate the Clarence Valley Aboriginal Advisory Committee, participate in NAIDOC Week activities, the Goorie interagency and other relevant committees
  • Act as a central information and dissemination point for the local Aboriginal communities

Council applies the definition of Aboriginality as defined in the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983. The Act requires a person to, be of Aboriginal decent, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted by the Aboriginal community in which he/she lives. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion.

Applicants can demonstrate their Aboriginality by:

  • demonstrating membership of a Local Aboriginal Land Council; or
  • presenting a certificate or paper confirming Aboriginality from a recognised Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation with a common seal.
