About the role

Community engagement is the point where community passion and commitment help to inform the our future. Unlike a lot of other jobs, the community engagement officer works with a huge range of people, services and government departments. You help to make define the appetites of the community. The Clarence Valley is committed to reflecting the diverse community we serve and this position will create a community link, with all people, where all are valued. You  need to be very good at listening as the community engagement position is the ‘ears’ that help Clarence Valley Council ‘hear’ effectively. You will help to build stronger, more inclusive communities. With your help, advice, advocacy, and support, the community will grow stronger, you get the satisfaction of seeing the results of your work play out before your eyes.

Other important information

This is an identified position in accordance with Part 2, Division 2, Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion. 

Council applies the definition of Aboriginality as defined in the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983. The Act requires a person to, be of Aboriginal decent, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted by the Aboriginal community in which he/she lives. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criterion.

Applicants can demonstrate their Aboriginality by:

• demonstrating membership of a Local Aboriginal Land Council; or
• presenting a certificate or paper confirming Aboriginality from a recognised Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community organisation with a common seal.
