City Water & Waste Unit

We have an outstanding opportunity for a driven and dynamic individual to work in one of the country's most sought after roles within the water and waste profession.

In this role, you will build upon the substantial work already in place and continue the restoration and rebuild of some of Christchurch's most essential infrastructure.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will provide visionary leadership to the Unit, consisting of 80 staff and seven direct reports and have core responsibility for ensuring water, wastewater, sewerage, land drainage and waste/rubbish services are delivered to all residents. You will also have responsibility for the extensive range of physical assets associated with the delivery of these services - currently incorporating a significant rebuild focus.

Within the key scope of this role, you will also have accountability for overseeing large contracts and joint venture initiatives around a diverse range of waste initiatives, a significant interface with public health, the media and the community, and a substantial emergency management component to ensure the delivery of essential services. 

Applicants must therefore possess outstanding people leadership, contract management, relationship management, risk management and technical engineering skills and a proven history of responsibility for core infrastructure services. The ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders is also essential to succeed in this critical position.
