 The UTS Institute of Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) is recruiting for a Social Planning Consultant that will be responsible for contributing as a team member to the Institute’s projects by undertaking project work, managing projects of a suitable scale and writing tenders to secure projects.

The Institute for Public Policy and Governance at UTS (UTS:IPPG) is an independent research institute focused on public policy, governance, social research, social planning, monitoring and evaluation and leadership.

About the role

The Social Planning Consultant will work in the areas of social needs and social impact assessments, social infrastructure planning, data analysis, use of census data and community profiles, community engagement and social research including interviews, focus groups and the conduct of workshops.

Major functions of the role include:

  • Conduct social planning projects – undertake social planning, social infrastructure, social impact assessments and community engagement activities. Demographic analysis, write tenders and ensure work progresses on time and within budget.
  • Business Development – prepare and contribute to projects to enable completion that is on time and within budget, prepare applications and proposals for external funding of research and consultancy projects and be proactive in seeking potential research and consultancy contracts and contacts.
  • Project Management - the consultant may manage projects up to $100,000 in value and project team members, be the principal point of contact for clients, identify and escalate changing priorities that may impact on workload and workplan.

About you

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain cooperative networks of colleagues and have the capacity to support community engagement activities.

You will have an understanding of the principles and application of social planning in a variety of contexts including local government social planning, service design and/or delivery.

A degree in social science or urban planning or related discipline is required. Experience in private sector consulting is highly desirable. This role requires a minimum of 5 years post degree experience.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $85,691 - $94,795 (HEW7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a continuing basis.
