The UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance (UTS:IPPG) is an independent research institute focused on public policy, governance, social research, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation and leadership. The Institute is a leader in public policy, governance, social research, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation and leadership. The Institute also incorporates the UTS: Centre for Local Government, which is specifically committed to the advancement of local government policy and practice.

Currently, the Institute is recruiting for a Social Research Officer (or Analyst) to conduct thorough and detailed quantitative research and evaluation, and assisting with the preparation of proposals for external funding opportunities.

Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Design and carry out structured, high quality, innovative applied consultancy, social research and evaluation projects using appropriate quantitative research methods.
  • With supervision and independently, prepare applications and proposals for external funding of research projects.
  • With supervision and independently, prepare consultancy, research and evaluation reports for government and non-government clients.
  • Provide support and advice to other researchers on research and consultancy projects.
  • Identify and escalate changing priorities that impact on workload and work plan to ensure required outputs are delivered on time and within budgets.
  • Be proactive in seeking potential research and consultancy contracts and contacts, both externally and internally within UTS.
  • Develop, present and explain research outcomes at internal and external workshops, seminars, conferences and meetings.

Main skills/experience required:

  • Demonstrated application of inferential statistics to social policy research and evaluation including but not limited to multilevel regression analysis, structural equation modelling and logistic regression (essential).
  • Experience designing and undertaking quantitative social research, including a sound understanding of experimental and quasi-experimental research designs (essential).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as cooperatively and flexibly in a small team, and to meet deadlines (essential).
  • Honours degree or equivalent with a substantial research component in a social policy field (essential).
  • Demonstrated experience using qualitative social research methods which may include, surveys, interviews, focus groups and document analysis (desirable).

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $87,414 to 96,701 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This appointment will be on a fixed-term, full-time basis for two years
