The Corporate Affairs and Strategic Marketing branch is looking for two new advisers to join our Media team.
The Corporate Affairs and Strategic Marketing branch works to enhance and safeguard the brand, reputation and profile of the organisation (City of Melbourne) and the City. The branch provides strategic, integrated and timely communications services and advice aligned to Council's four-year plan and ensures the community can access the information they need about our policies and activities.
How this position makes the difference to City of Melbourne…Reporting to the Manager Media Relations, Media Advisers work with aligned communications advisers and a broad group of internal stakeholders to develop and deliver integrated media and communications strategies to enhance the City of Melbourne’s reputation and inform the community of key Council activities.
The City of Melbourne is seeking experienced media relations professionals who can balance a diverse range of portfolios, key stakeholders and complex issues, while fulfilling the day to day requirements of the role including managing media enquiries, developing proactive media plans, writing media releases and coordinating publicity opportunities.
This position requires experience in a direct media advisory position within a government or complex, issues rich organisation.
Highly beneficial experience includes:
- Proactive and reactive media relations experience with a proven understanding of organisation messaging and positioning
- Strong team player with excellent written and personal communications skills including the ability to influence key stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes
- Proven ability to function effectively in a complex and demanding environment and manage high workloads, tight timelines and significant and diverse relationships
- Strong issues management experience and the ability to work calmly under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective media advice to senior executives on a range of complex and diverse issues
- A successful track record of work in public relations or journalism including a sound knowledge of media relations procedures
- Ability to exercise strong discretion and judgement in a complex business and political environment (political experience is desirable, but not essential)
- Availability to work after-hours, including responding to media enquiries and attending after-hours meetings.
