We have an opportunity for you to join an established team overseeing a wide variety of high profile city-shaping projects.

How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…As a Strategic Planner in the Planning Policy team, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of strategic urban planning reviews and planning scheme amendments.  The role will require you to undertake evidence-based research and analysis that contributes to Council’s understanding of the city’s urban systems and development.

The projects within the team's remit include those that create and influence an urban environment that contributes to Melbourne being the world’s most liveable city.  You will work across the organisation, with the Victorian Government and with a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders, ensuring a high level of collaboration while providing subject matter expertise.  Our branch looks to the future of the City of Melbourne.

What are we looking for? You will be tertiary qualified, with experience in strategic urban planning and the Victorian planning system. You will understand the need to consider the numerous, and sometimes competing aspects of the built environment.

You can bring… (Selection criteria)

• Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
• Relevant tertiary qualification and experience in statutory urban planning, strategic urban planning or a closely related field
• Experience of reviewing, amending and developing statutory planning schemes preferably in the State of Victoria’s system
• Demonstrated understanding of urban systems, urban economies and city development
• Demonstrated understanding of capital city urban planning issues
• Demonstrated understanding of urban planning principles and processes
• Proven experience and skills in developing and implementation of urban planning policy
• Demonstrated ability to provide advice and develop policy, plans and programs on the use and development of land, mobility and transport
• Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships and work in multi-disciplinary teams.

Desirable

• Ability to produce maps, plans and graphics using Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent and using online social, engagement and communication media.
