About the Branch

The Place Making and Engagement Branch utilises ‘place’ as a lens by which to improve integration of effort within CoM and enhance coordination between CoM, community and external stakeholders to deliver agreed and high quality place-based outcomes.

The purpose of the Branch is to enable CoM and the community to realise the potential of the places where we live, work and play.

 

How this position will make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

You will primarily beresponsible for leading and brokering strategic project and place-based development opportunities within City of Melbourne, specifically projects and opportunities to add value that require cross-organisational integration and coordination of internal and external stakeholders.

This senior role forms part of the Place Brokerage and Facilitation team that has a focus on using negotiation, facilitation and advocacy skills to influence and realise outcomes for complex multi-stakeholder, place-based initiatives primarily focused on our urban renewal areas of Docklands, Arden Macaulay and Fishermans Bend.

We are ideally seeking a candidate who can demonstrate their strong understanding of the strategies, processes and mechanisms for enabling successful urban renewal, drawing on extensive experience of building partnerships and delivering placed-based outcomes. You will possess well developed strategic thinking and problem solving skills and exhibit your excellent interpersonal skills to harness relationships at all levels across within City of Melbourne and external organisations.

 

You can bring… (Selection criteria)

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in urban planning, property, economic development or a related field and extensive experience in the planning, brokering and facilitation of complex place-based projects 
  • Knowledge and understanding of development planning, urban renewal and delivery mechanisms, particularly how to enable high quality outcomes in areas undergoing change in complex multi-stakeholder environments

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively across internal teams and to develop and maintain effective relationships with external partners in government

  • High-level analytical, lateral thinking and problem solving skills with experience in developing creative and innovative solutions to complex problems and the ability to conceptualise future opportunities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to deliver complex and detailed information in a manner that is both fit for the audience and easily understood, and the ability to influence and negotiate preferred outcomes for Council

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and manage complex projects and tasks, and to implement projects on time and on budget.
