How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

Visual design is a critical component of CityLab’s practice. The Senior Visual and Communication Designer is required to work closely with project teams to translate and communicate a project’s journey and findings to stakeholders through innovative and engaging storytelling-driven artefacts to ensure a project’s success.

You will deliver meticulously crafted communication pieces that tell the audience everything they need to know with depth and emotion while inspiring action. Your expertise in design will ensure CityLab’s work is reflective of the City of Melbourne brand and communicates clearly, through bold and innovative work which delivers impact.

The successful incumbent will have the ability to contribute innovative thinking and design solutions at each phase of the project lifecycle. You will have a keen eye for detail and can work cross-functionally with various teams both internally and externally.

With your excellent organisation, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, you will be a critical member of every project team you work in.

You can bring… (Selection criteria) –

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) in design with 2+ years in a senior role at a digital agency preferred
  • Advanced command of standard design applications (i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint/Keynote, Sketch, InVision); experience with video editing, motion graphics, and prototyping software is a plus
  • Advanced understanding of delivery methodologies with an emphasis on agile
  • Advanced ability to utilise feedback/direction from team members to generate multiple design explorations and iterate those designs
  • Strong visual communication and written skills, including development of stand-alone and presentation communication artefacts
  • Ability to create a safe space to explore new ideas that respects diverse perspectives, engenders positivity and favours action-bias
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a changing environment and delivering high quality outcomes.
