Salary from $127,641 plus 9.5% Superannuation
Max Term Contract or Senior Officer Contract to 31 December 2021

How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…
A senior role that is both strategic and very hands on, working closely with the Director, CityLab and branch leadership to help the organisation deliver strategic transformation. The Strategic Design Lead is specifically responsible for leading and managing the delivery of key projects, including a new ten-year Community Vision for the City of Melbourne. The Strategic Design Lead also provides people leadership to the Senior Strategic Designer and Strategic Designer.
Working collaboratively with a range of teams across City of Melbourne, you will take a “knowledge transfer” approach to help accelerate and embed new ways of working across the organisation. Design leadership, project management and relationship and stakeholder management are core capabilities of this role.
A proven leader of strategic design projects and teams with a record of empowering, developing and motivating staff, the successful candidate will also be an excellent communicator with extraordinary political nous to achieve success within a complex organisation and project team with diverse skillsets.

You can bring… (Selection criteria)
•Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
•Relevant Tertiary Degree – or equivalent experience – in a design discipline.
•Demonstrated experience forming and leading high-performing multidisciplinary project teams and utilising agile delivery methods in your project delivery approach.
•Demonstrated experience (5+ years) leading, developing and delivering strategic design projects for large organisations in a planet-centred way. This includes extensive experience leading the planning, delivery and implementation of design research, facilitation, insight synthesis, ideation, concept prototyping, strategy development and final output production.
•Ability to create a safe space to explore new ideas that respects diverse perspectives, engenders positivity, instils creative confidence in others and favours action-bias.
•Proven experience effectively managing complex issues within a highly political, complex environment.
•Strong oral communication and high-level written skills (including report writing, presentation, and negotiation skills) and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
•High level experience in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders at all levels and a sound understanding of stakeholder needs.
•Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a changing environment and delivering high quality outcomes.
