About the Opportunity    

City of Palmerston is seeking a Library Services Assistant Manager to oversee the daily operations of the library delivering a timely, professional, customer and community-focused library and information service and assist the Library Services Manager in staff supervision. 

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Oversee the efficient daily operations of the library service and provide exceptional customer service as required
  • Exercise supervisory control of library staff and circulation activities and coordinate the training of library staff and volunteers in circulation duties, electronic services, and reference skills
  • Co-ordinate troubleshooting of computing systems including oversight and continuous improvements of the library management system & public access computers, library policies, procedures and work practices
  • Oversee the accession, cataloguing and end-processing of new library material
  • Provide expert library advice and support as required
  • Oversee the effective planning and delivery of library services
  • Will be required to work on evening and weekends

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants will need to have completed or demonstrate progression towards a tertiary qualification conferring eligibility for a librarian or associate membership of ALIA. Demonstrated experience in the management, supervision and training of staff and patrons on operational processes is needed. Furthermore, working knowledge of copy/original cataloguing and collection management processes is a requirement. Demonstrated experience in the use of Office packages, internet, library management systems and electronic/online information and reference resources is highly regarded. Outstanding customer service skills, a current driver's license and working with children clearance are essential selection criteria of this position.

About the Benefits

This position is an on-going full-time position that is paid at Level 6 ($81,930 - $85,888 + superannuation). Council offers 6 weeks’ annual leave and a wide range of attractive employee benefits.
