About the Parks & Gardens Department
This department is part of our City Services Division, and is the operations arm responsible for the sustainable planning and management of Council's open, outdoor and natural environments including all green spaces, trees and the Geelong Botanic Gardens.

About the Role
The Coordinator Tree Management will provide leadership to Council staff and contractors managing Geelong’s urban forest, and will actively seek business improvement opportunities, lead team developments, influence and motivate a large workforce and be a key member of Parks & Gardens Leadership Team

This position is also required to provide a total “Life Cycle” asset management approach to Council tree management to manage the growth, development and diversification of the city’s urban forest. It will coordinate tree management operations to achieve compliance with contractual, legislative and agreed service level requirements.

Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include:

  1. Leading and motivating staff to enhance productivity, continuous improvement, safety and job satisfaction.
  2. Driving cultural change and be a key member of the City Parks & Gardens Leadership Team.
  3. Providing competent leadership, and management of human and financial resources.
  4. Coordinating the efficient delivery of Council’s tree management programs and initiatives to provide a professional, safe and customer focused service.
  5. Responsibility for implementing Council’s Urban Forest Strategy that seeks to improve, protect and manage Council’s tree population.
  6. Developing and managing innovative procurement methods, and ensuring effective ongoing contract management for compliance and service delivery performance.
  7. Monitoring the Planning referral process and providing arboricultural recommendations, reports and advice to management.
  8. Leading stakeholder consultation and engagement activities that promote and improve Council’s Urban Forest strategy and implementation initiatives.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will require:

  1. Relevant Diploma or higher qualification in Arboriculture or Horticulture and/or extensive experience.
  2. A current Working with Children check.
  3. Extensive record of achievement in leading and influencing a large labour force and managing proactive maintenance programs, community driven initiatives and customer focused outcomes.
  4. Highly developed verbal and written skills including experience in writing reports, contract specifications and technical reports.
  5. A demonstrated record of achievement in developing innovative proposals and changing an existing system for enhanced resource utilisation and financial management.
  6. Demonstrated experience in procurement and contract management.
