Sport and Recreation Planner

About the Social Planning & Investment Department

This department is part of our Community Life Division, and is responsible for the management of the City's social infrastructure across community planning, policy development, business development and focused marketing, and the identification and review of future social investment opportunities.

About the Role
This position contributes to the efficient and effective development of Council’s range of sport and recreation infrastructure and planning projects.

Some of the key responsibilities in this role, will include:

  1. Operating as an effective member of the Social Planning & Investment Department
  2. Liaising with internal departments, sporting clubs, associations, community groups and others in order to develop and deliver sport and recreation related projects from an initial idea through to concept development, design and delivery.
  3. Maintaining ongoing involvement in projects as the key contact from the Service Managers perspective.  This will include ‘signing off’ at key project stages and ensuring ongoing functionality and operational objectives are met.
  4. Writing reports and preparing external correspondence.
  5. Project managing Master Planning, Landscape Planning and Feasibility studies relating to sport and recreation.
  6. Creating, maintaining and reporting on the implementation of sport and recreation plans.
  7. Coordinating the development of project concepts for budgetary consideration from adopted Master/Landscape Plans, feasibility studies, risk management strategies.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A tertiary qualification in sports management or relevant field and 2 years’ experience in a similar role within the sport and recreation sector.
  • Experience in project development and management as it relates to infrastructure and planning projects.
  • Knowledge of sport and recreation development issues, trends and opportunities.
  • Ability to analyse complex and significant sport and recreation issues and understand the needs of internal providers, the political environment, the community and others.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, including influencing and negotiating, rapport building and report writing.
  • Excellent time management, personal organisation and ability to meet demanding deadlines.
