About the Health & Local Laws Department
This department is part of our Planning, Design & Development Division, and is responsible for delivering a range of services that ensures and encourages Council's compliance with relevant governing legislation. This covers Environmental Health, Animal Management, Local Laws and Parking Compliance.

About the Role
This position provides a high level of administrative support to the Community Laws & Compliance, Animal Compliance, Parking Compliance and School Crossing Program with a strong emphasis on customer service. The position also proactively provides leadership and manages staff reporting to this position, and performs a broad range of research, reporting, and administrative duties.

This is a temporary full-time 12 month Parental Leave replacement position.

Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include:

  1. Supervising, supporting and providing leadership and guidance to staff and identifying development opportunities and learning needs.
  2. Developing, implementing and regularly monitoring performance objectives, skill acquisition and personal development plans of the team.
  3. Building administration staff into a focused team that responds to changing work practice demands.
  4. Monitoring and ensuring the development and maintenance of database and reporting systems to facilitate the business planning and reporting process.
  5. Building relationships with key stakeholders, internal and external to the organisation.
  6. Maintaining communication between staff and providing assistance and support to ensure consistency of administrative processes.
  7. Organising and monitoring business processes to support Coordinator and Team Leaders.
  8. Assisting in reinforcing existing and establishing new networks within the industry in order to further Council’s business interests and identify best practice management techniques and technology.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Degree or diploma in an administration or business discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience, with the proven ability to foster teamwork and supervise a specialised team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coach, mentor and motivate teams and individuals.
  • Demonstrated high customer service ethos with a proven ability to liaise with the general public in relation to complaints and enquiries.
  • Demonstrated high level of dispute resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to monitor a budget.
  • Ability to problem solve and identify solutions to issues.
