About the City Development Department

This department is part of our Planning, Design and Development Division, and is responsible for the provision of information, advice and assistance regarding municipal building services, planning permits, planning scheme amendments and rezoning.

The opportunity at City of Greater Geelong
This role of Team Leader Governance (Building) will lead and direct a team to administer the provisions of the Building Act, the Building Regulations and other relevant legislation within approved processes, procedures and policies of Council.

The role also acts as the Municipal Building Surveyor as required and participates in the ongoing development of the Building Services Unit.

You will be expected to lead and manage the provisions of statutory compliance functions as provided in the Building Act and Building Regulations for the Building Governance Team. The successful application must also ensure that Building Surveying and Inspections are appropriately administered and are delivered effectively and efficiently within the scope of Council policy and legislation.

What you bring to City of Greater Geelong:

Tertiary Qualifications in a Building Surveying or other recognised qualification with demonstrated experience to carry out required functions. You will also need to be a registered Building Practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor – Unlimited.

Extensive experience as a qualified Building Surveyor and knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Building Act, Building Regulations and the National Construction Code of Australia and other relevant legislation.

Proven ability to lead and develop a diverse team.
