About the Role
In this role you will be working in the Environment and Natural Resources team to support the City and the community to ensure that biodiversity and natural landscapes are retained, protected and enhanced.

You will deliver a Southeast Bellarine Coastal Reserves Strategy as a preparatory step towards creating a sustainable conservation and heritage-driven protected environmental area between Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale.

This is a temporary part-time position working 48 hours per fortnight for nine months.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the preparation of the Southeast Bellarine Coastal Reserves Strategy including an agreed project scope and project plan, and strategy development.
  • Establishing a multi-disciplinary panel of experts and stakeholders to support the strategy delivery.
  • Developing a Community Engagement Plan to provide a framework for community engagement and discussion.
  • Leading community engagement to ensure all relevant stakeholders have input into the development of the Southeast Bellarine Coastal Reserves Strategy.
  • Providing regular updates for Councillors and other stakeholders.
  • Engaging and managing specialists and consultants as required.
  • Delivering a completed Southeast Bellarine Coastal Reserves Strategy for Council endorsement by December 2021.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
  • A current Victorian driver’s licence with the ability to drive a manual vehicle.
  • A current employee Working with Children check.
  • Extensive experience in strategy development and project delivery in particular around conservation management, ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to deliver high quality community consultation and engagement activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of disciplines.
  • Experience in managing contractors and consultants.
  • Extensive experience in communicating effectively with a diverse range of individuals, groups and stakeholders in order to assist with the promotion of environmental programs and activities.

Desirable:

  • Experience in Local Government field would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of mapping programs would be an advantage.
