The Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) has announced it will hold a public hearing about the 2016 Gold Coast City Council election.

The commission launched its investigation into the Gold Coast election after receiving complaints about the financial dealings of LNP fundraising body, the Fadden Forum.

The forum, run by federal MP Stuart Robert, caught controversy last year for its donations to two independent candidates.

Mr Robert has previously denied any wrongdoing, and the CCC has not released a list of witnesses.

Griffith University professor of public policy and law AJ Brown says the corruption watchdog probably knows what evidence it is looking for.

“The commission would already have a pretty good idea if it has got evidence of breaches of the law or clear cases of wrongdoing of that kind,” he told reporters.

“I think part of the value of a public hearing is to flush out any more information that might be out there that might be relevant to those potential offences.”
