The Victorian Government has put up an interactive online map for plotting mining and exploration leases.

Mining Licences Near Me gives users a good look at the locations of all leases, providing details about exploration licence holders such as their contact details, relevant work authorities, grant dates, and the product they hope to extract.

The website is designed to help community members and landholders stay informed about industrial developments nearby, and to determine if any exploration permits cover their land.

Victorian Energy and Resources minister Russell Northe said the site will ensure greater transparency for communities.

“Victorians have a right to know where, when and what mining activities are being undertaken in their region, and this new Government tool enables them to swiftly access this information.

“It is important our mining industry has the support and trust of the community to ensure its future success,” he said.

Anti-CSG lobbyists are reportedly upset that the site only shows approved exploration licences, not pending licence applications.
