As Technical Officer – Consent and Reports you will carry out all administration and enforcement functions within the Building Act 1993 under the supervision of the Coordinator Municipal Building Surveyor. You will also receive, assess and prepare reports on applications or referrals for siting and non-siting matters received by Council and represent Council and prepare for hearings at the Building Appeals Board for Council or delegate decisions that are appealed. You are also required to interpret and apply legislation, regulations and policy that relate to consent and report (dispensations), and make decisions and recommendations in respect of applications.
This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $95013 - $102,899 per annum + 11.5 % superannuation. We come together at least 3 days a week so we can collaborate in our vibrant office culture. When on-site you will enjoy modern and sustainable facilities and office spaces. You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building. As a permanent employee you also get access to our wellbeing program, employee assistance counselling program and receive 17.5% additional pay when on annual leave.
Desired Skills and Experience
To be suitable for this role you have:
Extensive experience in administering consent and report (dispensations) function within local government, including some experience presenting to the Building Appeals Board or similar statutory body
Working knowledge of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations, Ministers Guidelines and relevant Council policy and ability to apply this knowledge when considering applications
Highly developed writing skills to receive, assess and prepare reports on applications and prepare for hearings
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the demonstrated ability to persuade and gain the cooperation of a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks/projects at once while consistently meeting deadlines
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and positively contribute to the team
Tertiary qualification in building surveying, town planning or relevant field, together with relevant experience
