ABOUT OUR OUT OF HOME CARE PROGRAM NGALLA BIDEE MIA

“Every Aboriginal child living safely with their family”

Ngalla Bidee Mia, meaning Our Way Home in local Noongar language,  is a partnership Between Wungening Aboriginal Corporation and Parkerville Children and Youth Care Inc to Deliver Out of Home Care Services to Children and Young People and their families in the Perth Metropolitan area.

It is Wungening’s belief that there is no better place for children than living with family. This stems from the knowledge that many Aboriginal families and communities at their core are inherently safe. Sadly, past historical policies have impacted on many traditional cultural practices, in modern day the impact of this can mean for some children and young people they cannot ‘live at home’.

Aboriginal Children and Young People are significantly overrepresented in the Child Protection and Out of Home Care Systems. It is Wungening’s intention through Ngalla Bidee Mia whose core focus is a ‘family restoration model’ that we will support to create and lead solutions, that will help guide families, carers, and communities to grow and nurture moorditj djerripin koorlungas (strong happy children).
