The Planning Investigations team is high performing and well resourced with opportunities for growth and development of your investigative and problem solving skills that will make a difference to improve the amenity and safety of the Stonnington Community. You will be supported by knowledgeable and passionate team members, management and other departments. As Planning Investigations Officer you will be responsible for investigating and administering compliance with the Planning and Environment Act and the Stonnington Planning Scheme. You will also be responsible for the issuing of accurate notices and taking statements where a high standard of evidence is collected.
There is a high degree of autonomy in the role, with interesting and complex investigations to build your knowledge and capabailities.
The Stonnington City Council takes the safety of their Officers very seriously with every officer appointed a Body Worn Safety Camera, Duress Alarm, and Stonnington Vest. Joint agency investigations are conducted with Victoria Police and include joint operations and patrols of the Chapel Street entertainment precinct. This requires occasional participation in afterhours weekend work.
This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $92,922 - $100,635 per annum + 10.5% superannuation and a monthly day off arrangement.
You will be required to work normal business hours and some evenings and weekends. Occasional early morning hours maybe required. Hybrid role with flexibility to work from home, the office and in the field. Flexible working hours available. Desired Skills and Experience
To thrive in this role you will be required to have investigative skills including experience at the Magistrates Court and/ or VCAT is preferred.
You also have:
Demonstrated ability to effectively and competently manage complex planning investigation cases, including landscaping, development and land use matters.
An understanding of the importance of maintain accurate and timely records, including planning investigation reports.
Experience in undertaking proactive planning inspections and audits to ensure compliance with Planning Permits.
Experience in identifying and substantiating breaches, interviewing witnesses and alleged offenders to progress and complete investigations.
An ability to accurately prepare and issue Notices, make enforcement order applications to VCAT and file proceedings at the Magistrates Court.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to providing quality customer service
An ability and desire to provide support to team members and positively contribute to the team culture
Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills and proven ability to troubleshoot, identify and solve issues with a view to developing recommendations
A tertiary Qualification in Municipal / Planning / Building Law and /or experience in the enforcement of Planning Legislation
