Local Laws Officer

This position is to provide services for the protection of public amenity health and safety of the community Mackay City by administering and enforcing Council's Local Laws and Policies. Duties shall include, but not limited to:
 
  • Carry out inspections, patrols and required remedial actions to ensure control of all animals highlighted within Council's Local Laws.
  • Issue infringement notices and parking infringement notices where necessary.
  • Investigate and action abandoned vehicle reports within the Local Government area.
  • Collect and prepare evidence for legal actions undertaken within Council's Local Laws.
  • Carry out inspections and register or licence all boarding/breading kennels, racehorse stables and care for animals impounded under the authority of Council's Local Laws or the Local Government Act.
 
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Current QLD 'C' Class drivers licence.
  • Current QLD motor bike licence.
  • Experience in a regulatory compliance role.
  • Sound skills in interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and dealing with difficult people.
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts, Regulations, Local Laws and Policies.
  • Exposure to animal behaviour and control.
 
Applicants must be able to take part in an on call roster including weekends.

$54,201 - $60,260 base salary + locality allowance
