The Western Australian Government has tabled a report of the eight-month long inquiry into the City of Canning's elected council, concluding there were systematic failures by the council.

State Local Government Minister, John Castrilli, said that the report related to the council's governance, recruitment, tendering processes, contract management and general performance.

According to Mr Castrilli, the inquiry found evidence of the failure of the council in it's responsibility to ensure that the City of Canning functions properly.

It reported the failure had been both serious and continuous over an extended period of time.

“I received the report on Wednesday and have elected to table it at the earliest opportunity because I am aware of a high level of public interest in the inquiry,” Mr Castrilli said.

“The findings of the inquiry are of significant concern to me and my priority is to ensure the City of Canning and its administration is acting in the best interests of its community.”

The Minister said the State Government would fully consider the inquiry report, its findings and recommendations before determining what appropriate action should be taken.

The report had been provided to the council.
